WHY IS DISCIPLINE HARD

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. Without discipline, even the most talented and motivated individuals will struggle to achieve their goals. The problem is that while most people recognize the importance of discipline, they find it incredibly difficult to maintain. In this blog, we will explore why it is so hard to be disciplined and what we can do to overcome this challenge.

Lack of Immediate Gratification

One of the biggest obstacles to being disciplined is the lack of immediate gratification. We live in a world where everything is available instantly, and we have become conditioned to expect instant results. However, discipline requires delayed gratification. It requires us to give up something now for the promise of a greater reward in the future. This can be incredibly difficult, especially when the rewards seem so far away.

Overwhelming Choices

We live in a world of endless choices. From what to eat to what to watch on TV, there are countless options available to us. While this may seem like a good thing, it can actually be overwhelming and lead to decision fatigue. When we are overwhelmed by choices, it is easy to become paralyzed and make no decision at all. This can make it difficult to be disciplined and stick to a plan.

Lack of Accountability

Discipline requires accountability. We need to be accountable to ourselves and to others if we want to achieve our goals. However, in today's society, we are increasingly isolated, and there is less emphasis on personal responsibility. This lack of accountability can make it difficult to stay disciplined, as there is no one to hold us accountable for our actions.

Fear of Failure

Many people struggle with discipline because they are afraid of failure. They fear that if they try and fail, they will be judged or ridiculed by others. This fear can be paralyzing and prevent us from taking action. However, failure is a necessary part of the learning process, and we must learn to embrace it if we want to be successful.

Lack of Motivation

Discipline requires motivation. We need to have a clear goal and a strong reason for pursuing it. However, motivation can be elusive, and it is easy to lose sight of our goals when we are faced with obstacles and setbacks. When motivation wanes, it can be difficult to summon the discipline necessary to stay on track.

So, what can we do to overcome these challenges and be more disciplined? Here are a few tips:

1. Set Clear Goals: To be disciplined, we need to have a clear goal in mind. Set a goal that is specific, measurable, and achievable, and write it down. This will help keep you focused and motivated.

2. Create a Plan: Once you have a goal in mind, create a plan to achieve it. Break the goal down into smaller, more manageable tasks, and create a timeline for completing each one.

3. Find an Accountability Partner: Accountability can be a powerful motivator. Find someone who can hold you accountable for your actions and check in with you regularly to make sure you are staying on track.

4. Embrace Failure: Failure is a necessary part of the learning process. Instead of fearing it, embrace it and use it as an opportunity to learn and grow.

5. Celebrate Success: When you achieve a milestone or reach a goal, take time to celebrate your success. This will help keep you motivated and reinforce the importance of discipline.

In conclusion, discipline is essential if we want to achieve our goals. However, it is not easy, and there are many obstacles that can get in the way. By setting clear goals, creating a plan, finding an accountability partner, embracing failure, and celebrating success, we can overcome these challenges and become more disciplined. With discipline, anything is possible.
